Advent Day 1: November 28, 2021

Jeremiah 33:14-15

‘Behold, days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will fufill the good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch of David sprout; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth.

Over 500 years before the coming of the Messiah, God declared his plan and purpose through the prophet Jeremiah. The birth of a child who was of the “house and lineage of David” and who was born in Bethlehem, the city of David was not an accident.

Jesus, who was the Branch of David and the promised Messiah, was part of God’s plan of salvation even before sin entered the world.  The plan included names like Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses. It included all of the judges, prophets, and kings of Israel. Eventually it included a young woman named Mary and a man named Joseph, and of course some Shepherds and some Magi. But at the heart of it all is the plan and promise of God.  Oh, and by the way, by trusting in the Savior who was promised, your name becomes part of the plan too!

If you have a few minutes go back to the first three verses of Jeremiah 33 and read about another of God’s promises to reveal great and wondrous or mighty things to those who call on him. Then consider asking God to speak to you in some of those special ways during the next few weeks through these devotions, worship, your own prayer time, and maybe in ways you might not expect.

Prayer: Father, Thank you for making and keeping the promise of a Savior, and thank you for allowing me to know the salvation you have provided in Jesus the Christ. Now open my heart to anything and everything you have for me to hear in this season!
